Three things I always keep on hand - canned pumpkin, coconut oil, and essential oils. Puppies will have digestive upsets for many reasons, and sometimes for seemingly no reason at all. Buy a can of pure pumpkin puree (NOT the pie filling) and make half inch balls of it on a cookie sheet. Throw the cookie sheet in the freezer for a bit, then toss the balls in a gallon ziplock back.
A full can will spoil before you can use it all, so this way gives you several single use pumpkin balls. If they have runny
poo, one of these pumpkin balls is usually enough to settle a tummy, and bulk up runny stool.
Pure organic coconut oil is a little pricey, but well worth it, and a pint will last you forever. I’ve used it to soothe a skin rash, help a nursing momma’s sore teats, constipation in adult dogs, condition dry foot pads in the winter, and more. It’s very, very good for their coats as well! In it’s room temperature form, it is in a solid state. I just toss a couple of teaspoons over their feed once a week. All of mine will eat it solid, but if your’s won’t, you can microwave it for a few seconds to liquify.
Essential Oils - Love them! If you’ve ever used EO’s, you’ll understand. If you haven’t, study up on them before using any with your doggies - you can do more harm than good if you don’t fully understand what you’re working with. We diffuse constantly and use topically as well. Dr Melissa Shelton DVM is a holistic veterinarian who specializes in the use of EO’s in many species - not just canines. She and her website are invaluable. Additionally, our Young Living Essential Oil rep is a wealth of knowledge. (She also has not one but two GVDoods!) All of her contact information will be in puppy’s Going Home Bag along with a
puppy wellness EO starter kit. Get oily!
